Karen Druker
Modernist Colorful Goats Abstract

c. 2010

About the Item

Fun and bright watercolor with goats, the form of the goat repeating on a bold abstract background of fractured color-fields in highly saturated hues, by Karen Druker (American, 1945). Signed "Druker" along the back of a goat in the lower right corner. Presented in a light grey mat. No frame. Image size: 23"H x 30"W Karen Druker (American, b. 1945) in an artist from the San Francisco Bay Area. She has been painting since 2001, after retiring from her catering and event planning company. Druker is an associate member of the National Watercolor Society and co-chair of Watermedia Workshops for The Santa Clara County Watercolor Society. She has been participating in Silicon Valley Open Studios since 2003. Artist’s Statement: I am continuously exploring and experimenting in my art! Creativity is my long suit. I have no fear! I only paint for myself. It is just a piece of paper, I tell myself. It is a CANVAS THAT CAN BE REPAINTED AGAIN AND AGAIN - and it will get better! And it does. I allow mistakes! I love painting in series, to ever get deeper into the subject. I have painted up to 60 versions of the same still life set-up, emphasizing color, value, size, direction, shape, line, etc. in various versions. Currently most of my work is abstract. My favorite artists are Matisse and Picasso. They continued to experiment and try new methods and medias throughout their lives, and I am inspired to do the same - keep it fresh! Keep it new! Doing ceramic wall pieces is next.

  • Gentlemen at the Races, Point to Pointing
    By Sir Alfred James Munnings
    Located in Cotignac, FR
Early 20th century watercolour of a gentleman on horseback with other riders in the background apparently signed or titled 'Count A de Monthaus'. Signed or titled bottom left. Presented in fine period gilt frame under glass. The artist has captured a moment of pause, the gentlemen rider in his fine clothes and bowler hat regarding his surroundings as his fellow riders continue the chase behind him, possibly a 'point to point'. Monthaus has captured the stance of the standing horse as well as the movement of the other horses. He has used white to give light and definition to the costume of the rider and the background. A lovely atmospheric and dynamic watercolour very much of its period and in the spirit of equine portraiture made famous by the likes of Sir Alfred Munnings. Sir Alfred James Munnings, KCVO PRA RI (8 October 1878 – 17 July 1959) was known as one of England's finest painters of horses, and as an outspoken critic of Modernism. Engaged by Lord Beaverbrook's Canadian War...
