About the Item

Barr, Wyatt. NEWRY. Drawing, Charcoal and ink wash on Arches 300lb. Hot Press Watercolor paper, 2014. The subject is a hillside next to Step Falls in Newry, Maine. Signed and dated. 43 1/4 x 65 1/4 inches. In excellent condition. This is a monumental, room-filling drawing which looks great in its present setting as shown in the photo, enhancing the setting without dominating it, notwithstanding its size. It looks photographic, but it is drawn by hand in charcoal and ink washes with highlighting. Wyatt Barr is a young emerging artist, who lives and works in the area where the drawing was made. The frame is simple, but very appropriate to the work. The size will require special packing and handling if shipped in the frame, so please expect that there will significant additional cost for shipping.

  • Olive Grove with Hills in the Distance - Charcoal Drawing, Greek Island, Country
    By George Tzannes
    Located in New York, NY
This 17.5 x 35 inches black and white chalk drawing on paper represents a Greek landscape. Two olive trees are in the foreground, with the countryside extending behind in the distant horizon. Tzannes is an American painter of Greek origins. In his twenties, he visited Kythera, the Greek island of his father's birth. Since then, the island has become the primary reference of his creativity. Using black and white to represent this landscape gives the mighty hundred-year-old olive trees a monumental presence. The viewer is drawn into the timeless, spiritual quality of the Greek landscape. Despite the absence of color, Tzannes' mastery of drawing creates a tangible effect of the Greek light...

  • Diver Michele Zalopany black white abstract cloud and water landscape painting
    By Michele Zalopany
    Located in New York, NY
At the center of this large-scale black and white charcoal and pastel painting, a diver launches himself from untold heights, frozen at the peak of action against an ecstatic plume of clouds. Zalopany excels at painting with light, often abstracting areas of a composition with explosions of brush strokes and impossibly smooth blending. The cloud mass at the center of Diver is at once a liquid pool and O’Keefe’s Jimson Weed...
