About

Allegorical Scene is a beautiful artwork attributed to Jacopo Amigoni. Probably realized in the first half of the XVIII century. Pen, brown ink with colored watercolors on paper, indistinct watermark. The work shows a typical allegorical scene with a woman in the center wrapped in a cloth resting on her legs and leaving her bust naked. At its sides a small putto and to her right a cherub playing a trumpet. Jacopo Amigoni (ca. 1685–1752), also named Giacomo Amiconi, was an Italian painter of the late-Baroque or Rococo period, who began his career in Venice His splendid frescoes, prints and paintings, preferably dedicated to mythological and historical scenes, emanate a gentle, elegant serenity. From 1717 on Jacopo Amigoni began to export his style to southern Germany, where he produced many important artworks. In the 1730s Jacopo Amigoni's art became popular in England where he was engaged in the decoration of palaces, mansions and public buildings, as well as portrait painter at the court. In 1739 Jacopo Amigoni traveled back to his home country and began to accept commission works especially from the Church and from the nobility in Venice and the Veneto. In 1747 Jacopo Amigoni he moved to Spain. The artist, who was called "Santiago Amiconi" in Spain, took on a post as court painter in Madrid. In 1752 Jacopo Amigoni died as one of the greatest painters of European Rococo in Madrid. This artwork is shipped from Italy.
