In his youth he was a member of the Ancients, a group of followers of William Blake. He was a keen follower or cricket, always to be found at Lords. He was a long life friend of Samuel Palmer and was a fellow student of Edward Calvert and Thomas Sidney Cooper. In 1888 Richmond went to Paris to study art and anatomy, it is possible this is from that period. His later works are portraits or prominent figures of the day such as William Wilberforce. Available for sale; this original watercolor is by Herbert Charles Nye and dates from the 1890s. The painting is presented and supplied in a sympathetic frame and mount which dates from the 1990s (which is shown in these photographs). This antique painting is in good condition, defying its age. It is supplied ready to hang and display. The watercolor is signed lower right. Herbert Nye was an English artist and sculptor, active at the end of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. His birth is registered in St James, Westminster in March 1858. He lived and worked from London, then Walton on Thames, then Pulborough in Sussex. He exhibited at the leading galleries of the day between 1885 and 1927, including the Royal Institute and the Royal Academy, where he exhibited 17 works.
