About the Item

Urban Landscape is an original contemporary artwork realized by the Venetian artist Emilio Vedova in the 1970s. Original Ink on paper. Hand-signed in ink on the lower left corner: Vedova. Excellent conditions. Beautiful expressive black and white work on paper representing in the typical Vedova Style an urban architectural view of the city. The artist started working on urban views from from the Seventies; he used to work the architectural structures with a dark color that literally invade all the surface. He is know as one of the most important exponents of the Abstract Expressionism in Italy. The work has been realized by the Italian artist Emilio Vedova (Venice, 1919 - Venice, 2006). He was a self-taught artist, he joined the Milanese anti-Fascist artists’ association Corrente (Current, 1938–43). In 1946, in Milan he collaborated with Morlotti on the manifesto “Oltre Guernica” and was a founding member of the Fronte Nuovo delle Arti from 1946 to 1950 in Venice. In 1952 he participated in the Gruppo degli Otto Pittori Italiani and exhibited at the Venice Biennale. Vedova was also the Italian representative at the first Documenta in 1955 and won a Guggenheim International Award in 1956. In 1959 he exhibited his large L-shaped canvases Scontro di situazioni, in an environment created by Carlo Scarpa. Vedova was awarded the Grand Prize for painting at the 1960 Venice Biennale. After the late 1970s, he experimented with a variety of techniques and formats such as the mobile works on steel rails. In 1995 he began a new series of multifaceted and manipulable painted objects called Disk-Multiple (Disco-Plurimo). This artwork is shipped from Italy.
