Janssart, pseudonym Wouter W. Janssen As early as the age of six, the talented Wouter painted the blossoming blossom trees in his parents' garden. At fourteen, he painted a portrait of his teacher at school and was rewarded with a ten for ‘drawing’ on his diploma. His fascination with painting of the 15th and 16th centuries led to a nearly perfect copy of "El Greco's Madonna" at age 16. This love of artistic expression continued to grow over the years, fuelled in part by the success of his creations. At the age of eighteen, this passionate painter decided to devote his life entirely to fine art, combining his studies at art school with working in a restoration studio. Here he discovered the secrets and painting techniques of the old masters, it fuelled his interest in art history and art movements. The extraordinary thing is that so coincidentally the history of painting became synchronized with his artistic life. Wouter Janssen studied the painting technique of his favourite painter Rembrandt for more than ten 10 years. He became wanted to unravel the mystery of the master. The paints used at that time were naturally rubbed by himself to approximate a historical effect. In a subsequent episode, he immersed himself in the technique of Romanticism. His paintings, mostly landscapes, were made in the style of the Dutch Romantic School. And led to unprecedented success in America. For example, with one-man exhibitions on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. After watching a documentary on the life of Vincent Van Gogh, Wouter Janssen wondered what it would be like to paint in an impressionist style. The work was done with ink and watercolor on watercolor paper 300g. The work is 11 by 15 inches in size. This is the "Many thoughts, one head" series. The series started with the picture of a figure with its hands framing the head - but without an actual head, as if hands were holding all the thoughts. Later on the head became objects - metaphors (soap, bubble, mine, alarm clock, etc.) as well as planets. Each person is an individual planet, with their own thoughts and satellites - companions. In addition to numerous exhibition participations, including the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Landesmuseum Österreich in St. Pölten, Austria, the Institut Français in Vienna showed a comprehensive solo exhibition of the artist in 2014. In 2017, de Ganay realized a highly acclaimed installation for the Kunsthalle Krems. de Ganay lives and works in Austria. de Ganay produces minimalist abstract art works, painting, relief and wall sculpture. Sculptures made of aluminum, linen fabric, plastic, oil painting, wood and other materials. de Ganay joins a tradition of experimental artists. In this sense, for example, the Achromes by the Italian Arte-Povera artist Piero Manzoni, created in the 1960s, point the way for de Ganay's examination of folded linen fabric. "The process of de Ganay's Painting is the process of thought itself; it is a process which turns not away from painting, but towards it. And rather than seeing painting as closure, he presents his work to us as a space of multiple openings, layers, shadows and reflections. Painting is, as much as an object or a process, a state of flux." (Adrian Searle, art critic for The Guardian, London (1994)) In the style of Readymades and Arte Povera, de Ganay starts out from a simple utility material and combines this with an examination of the surface in the tradition of Minimal Art.
