About

Tilt-back chair of Douglas fir plywood with birch slats. Home construction project, based on a pattern by Arthur Collani, whose designs appeared in Home Craftsman Magazine in the early 1950's. Readers were provided with schematic drawings, written instructions, and pictures of the finished product. This chair captures the spirit of the early postwar do-it-yourself movement that helped increase awareness of modernism in America.
